It was one of the most fun days of my life. The wedding was as perfect as a wedding can be. Let me ask you one question though - do you think the Pugilist's hit die should be a d10? I probably won't respond to all of the other astute comments you've left on this thread regarding the additional fight clubs because I am SWAMPED with writing projects now (working on an adventure, drafted into a collaboration for DM's Guild, and I have to get the blog back up to its normal pace now that I'm back) but rest assured I'll be looking at them as one of the next blog posts will do a bit more to the Pugilist before I leave it alone again. I'm not super convinced its out of line at this point (and I have seen two Squared Circle Pugilists in long term campaigns). I think you've done a great job at describing the Pugilist and that's my experience in games I run for Pugilists as well.Īs for the grappler subclass, it did get a big nerf and a small buff (to offset how big the nerf was) to its level 3 feature in the recent update.

6 level 1 InsultingBagel 4y Shameless self plug. 4 level 1 SuscriptorJusticiero 4y Bardbarian (not a typo) There's also the good old remaster of Way of the Four Elements monk. This posted version was actually the very first draft from when I was still a baby at writing for 5e! Most things look balanced, but beware of the few exceptions. Thanks for getting the word out about the updated Pugilist class. So try allowing your player to play the Sweet Science Pugilist. It appears frankly too powerful with its ability to gain advantage on targets it grapples - makes Haymakers too easy to score. However, I have spoke with other users who have ran the Grappler subclass. The class functions incredibly well, with sufficient compensations for its strengths and weaknesses. So if a Monk fights like a skirmisher, zipping about the battlefield disabling opponents with Stunning Strike, then the Pugilist runs into the center of enemies and tries to score some means to negate the disadvantage from Haymaker, usually by proning a target.

Below are the titles of the 5 episodes featuring my homebrew class, but there are so many episodes they make that feature all sorts of fun homebrew creations. All of its defensive features serve to keep the Pugilist barely standing as it plunges into the depths of enemy lines. A special thanks to MTNrhyno for creating and playing the super-fast speedster XLR8 using this homebrew class (v2.0 was used).

However, in practice, the Pugilist appears to function more like a glass cannon, particularly with Haymaker in consideration. On paper, it looks like a Pugilist is built to be more tanky than the Monk. Here is the current version.Ī player of mine runs /u/coolgamertagbro's Pugilist in my Curse of Strahd campaign. Instead, it has abilities that you prepare each day, not unlike preparing spells. This is a really old, out of date version of the Pugilist. It is highly experimental, in that it has no subclasses.
